Local time on June 17, in the local APOPO
training center of Morogoro, Tanzania, one giant rat who is from Afghanistan
are being trained to detect buried land mines and other metal objects inside.
With respect to the ordinary mine detectors, the detection speed of these rats
is much faster, and they can very quickly detect the objects that are buried in
the ground and contain a metal content.
In addition to de-mining, these rats also
have an excellent sense of smell and it can be used to detect tuberculosis.
According to the foreign media reports, the amount that a giant rat detects the
tuberculosis samples in ten minutes is more than the amount that a technician
tests the tuberculosis samples in one day. Just as the de-mining, testing of
tuberculosis needs new, rapid and inexpensive detection technology, and these
giant rats provide a new solution.
